THE R.A.S.T.A. PROJECT
Here at Sanuk, it’s safe to say we’re keen on keeping Mother Nature stoked. Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand the importance of making wise environmental choices. It was only natural we put our happy heads together to find a fun and functional way to blend our environmental ethos with our laid back lifestyle.
We have teamed up with professional surfer, whimsical wombat and eco-ambassador Dave Rastovich to start an initiative we call the the Recycled and Sustainable Trade Alliance. Aptly nicknamed The R.A.S.T.A. Project, the goal of this collaboration is to create a line of sandals that will leave the smallest footprint (or in our case sandal print) possible.
Our current line features choice materials like recycled rubber insoles, jute, hemp, cork, natural latex, recycled plastic bottles, and recyclable TPE. In addition, we have also swapped our plastic packaging for corn based alternatives. Incorporating these marvelous materials helps us redefine the sandal world all the while bringing us closer to creating a truly sustainable sandal that looks good and feels even better!
Founded in '04 by Aussie waterman Dave Rastovich and his artist/activist pal Howie Cooke, Surfers For Cetaceans is volunteer-run non-profit organization focused on mobilizing ocean-minded people against the mistreatment, capture and slaughter of dolphins, whales and other marine mammals worldwide. Their mission is to serve as a human voice for these magnificent creatures through coordinated campaigns and grassroots interventions centered around compassion, awareness and education.
